THE MERIDA BRASS MONKEYS SERIES 2016 AS RIDDEN BY MERIDA FACTORY RACING RIDER HEIDI GOULD

With the evenings drawing in, the temperature dropping and Winter on its way it can only mean one thing for the Merida Factory Racing Calendar, the Merida Brass Monkeys XC Enduro Series.

It all kicked off in December at Windmill Hill, a murky morning greeted us as we signed on, teeth chattering, numbers on and then up to the start line we headed.

As the horn goes everyone jostles for position but myself and Paul head out of the Arena in good positions in our respective races, what follows is an hour and a half of fast racing on an excellent course of mixed terrain, flowing single track, gravel tracks, a couple of technical sections with a/b line options and a view of the canal that flows through this area… if you have time to look!!

Both of us finishing on the podium puts us in good stead for the overall Series.

Round 2 took us to the popular venue of Minley Manor, well known for the Torq 12:12 races it was great to be able to come and race on this circuit knowing it would be an hour and a half of fun filled trails!

Myself, Paul and Kim signed on to race this round and again the racing was fast and furious, the course was brilliant, rain half way through the race did little to dampen the spirits although conditions became slightly slicker and a bit more concentration was needed to stay upright!

After an hour and a half of single tracks, climbs, fun descents and a bit of mud we were all happy to finish on the podium… good results at the last two rounds meant me and Paul were now leading our categories and were going into the final round with good points.

Round 3 was held at a new venue near Bordon, a new circuit that provided some challenging racing and given the early morning rain we had soggy was definitely the best way to describe ground conditions… out in full force today myself, Paul and Kim were joined by new team member Patsy…a good race was had by all as we battled it out on the slick course of winding single track.

A good race for all of us as we all finished on the podium in our categories and with consistent good results throughout the whole Series I took the overall win for the 2hr Ladies senior and Paul took the win for the 2hr Vet male.

An excellent Series that is well organised and that we all thoroughly enjoyed…..thanks to the organisers and sponsors.

END OF MERIDA BRASS MONKEYS SERIES 2016

A big thank you to all who rode at this year’s Series, showing their support after what were difficult times.  There was some awesome riding and some well deserved trophy winners.   Huge thanks goes to Merida Bikes UK for their brilliant sponsorship and support of this iconic Series.  Thank you also to Four4th Lights for their sponsorship and provision of the unique event trophies.  We are already planning the next Series and the dates will be: Sun 26 November, Sun 17 December and Sun 7 January.

MERIDA BRASS MONKEYS 3 NEW DATE ANNOUNCEMENT

MBM 3 has been postponed from Sunday 5 February to Sunday 5 March.  We have done this because, based on our considerable experience of organising mtb events, we believe that the extremely wet weather forecast for this coming week together with ongoing construction work on part of the venue will adversely affect the event and spoil your enjoyment of it.

All entries have been moved to the new date however if, for some reason you are unable to attend on the new date, please email info@gorrick.com by Friday 24 February and we will organise a full refund for you.

We apologise for any disappointment this may cause, but look forward to welcoming you to Hogmoor in March.

MERIDA BRASS MONKEYS 3 VENUE ANNOUNCEMENT

The final round of this year’s series will take place at WBR, Hogmoor Road, Bordon, GU35 9HL – nearest postcode GU35 9HL.  This is a new long term exclusive venue for us which is part of the Whitehill & Bordon Regeneration initiative.  Whilst there are no hills you can expect a superb course with lots of short climbs and descents in mixed woodland.  There’ll be a hard standing Arena and parking.

Round 3 will now be held at a NEW VENUE – one that we have been looking to secure for a while, but recent issues have meant that we have brought forward it’s launch. The compact, but beautifully formed course near Frimley Green, Surrey GU16 6HT (which will be clearly signposted from Frimley Green village) will, as ever, be carefully set and prepared by our very experienced team and you can expect to go through heath and pine woodland with flowing and testing singletrack mixed with climbs and descents. Please note that the venue is privately owned and not open for riding at any other time.

MERIDA BRASS MONKEYS ROUND 1 – Change of venue
Due to widespread, ongoing Army training manoeuvres across the area, we have this week been told that we cannot now use any military land at all for Merida Brass Monkeys Round 1 this coming weekend.
We have therefore had to try and source some non-military land at very short notice – with insufficient time for the usual official pre-application paperwork that is required at most venues.
We have been greatly helped in this by Steve Jones of Banjo Cycles and, as a result, Merida Brass Monkeys Round 1 this Sunday will now be held at Hammonds Farm, Checkendon which is a privately owned established mtb venue. It is halfway between Wallingford and Reading on the A4074 and the nearest postcode is RG8 0QT.
Although we envisage a shorter course than usual for a Merida Brass Monkeys event, the team will ensure that you have an enjoyable opener to the Series. As you can imagine, we have had an extremely difficult couple of weeks and we appreciate your understanding.
